JAKARTA, -almost half of internet users in Indonesia are accessing the internet from their mobile phone. It is estimated to be increasing, as seen from the desire of society to access the internet via a mobile phone in the 12 months ahead.
In pre-release data from Nielsen Southeast Asia Digital Consumer Report, which will be launched on 30 September 2011 at a later date, say, 48 percent of internet users in Indonesia are using mobile phones to access the internet. These figures make Indonesia as the most dependent on market access among ASEAN countries.
Nielsen predicts trend will continue with 53 percent of internet users who are accessing via a mobile phone in one year to the next.
“A device that has the capability to access the internet such as mobile phones and tablet offers easy access to the internet to consumers Indonesia without having to rely on the availability of high-speed broadband services in their homes,” said Managing Director of the Division of the Nielsen Media Indonesia, Irawati Pratignyo, in a release received Kompas.com, Monday (11/7/2011).
Not only a mobile phone only, Nielsen predicts internet access via handheld devices can also be increased to 30 percent from 13 percent currently, in one year to the next.
“For sure, we look at all the indications towards the significant growth of internet access through mobile devices and handhelds in the next 12 months and to come,” added Irawati.
